Lawyers often make interesting comments in court. Yesterday, George (“Boy George”) O’Dowd’s lawyer declared that the singer was too fat to have attacked a male escort in his London home.
The former pop star is accused of handcuffing Audun Carlsen, a six-foot tall, lean male escort to a hook above his bed and then beating him with a chain. The alleged attack occurred after an erotic photo shoot at Boy George’s home in April last year.
Boy George’s attorney, Adrian Waterman, told that jury that “[w]ith the greatest of respect to George O’Dowd, he is not someone you could describe as terribly fit. He has put on a few pounds since the 1980s. He is not going to be a match for Audun Carlsen.”
Waterman also noted that O’Dowd admits to handcuffing Carlsen for a valid reason. He believed that Carlsen had been tampering with his laptop. Did Boy George have a lawful reason to imprison and detain Carlsen?
Carlsen stated that after handcuffing him, O’Dowd produced leather bondage straps and chains and threatened him, saying “[n]ow you are going to get it.” According to Carlsen, he ran from the apartment as O’Dowd struck him with a chain.
A pathologist said Carlsen’s injuries were unlikely to be caused by punching and chains and were probably caused by the bondage photoshoot.
Did Boy George have a lawful reason to falsely imprison Carlsen?
