Fred Leonhardt, senior partner at Orlando-based law firm GrayRobinson, has announced the cancellation of its famous annual open house, usually attended by many of the area’s power brokers.
Instead, the firm is eliminating the $150,000 holiday event and giving the money to charity instead.
Among the recipients: the Second Harvest Food Bank, the Coalition for the Homeless, the American Red Cross, the Orlando Sentinel’s Family Fund and the MacDonald Training Center.
Leonhardt told the Orlando Sentinel, “We usually have 90 minutes of great fun. But I think the folks who run and benefit from these charities will enjoy this for a much longer time. And have a substantially bigger impact.”
Upon release of the news, the Orlando office of law firm Foley & Lardner followed suit.
