Congressional staffer and counter-terrorism expert John Sopko has left the House Energy and Commerce Committee, where he was chief counsel for oversight & investigations since 2007, to join Akin Gump as a partner.
Sopko will concentrate on congressional and other federal investigations.
He was senior adviser to committee Chairman John Dingell, a Michigan Democrat. Previously, Sopko worked for the House Select Committee on Homeland Security as the Democratic general counsel & chief of investigations.
He served for 15 years as the deputy chief counsel to the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
