As predicted, Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe is laying off a total of 300 employees.
Orrick has begun a firmwide reduction in its workforce in the United States and Asia and redundancy consultations in Europe that will affect approximately 100 associates and 200 staff. These actions are made necessary by the world economic crisis and the impact of that crisis on our clients and the levels of activity in the world market. These actions are unrelated to performance and affect attorneys and staff throughout our offices and practices. We will provide severance pay and outplacement services and otherwise work to assist with the individual transitions.
Laid off attorneys will get a three month severance package.
The San Francisco-based firm, founded in 1863, has over 1,100 lawyers worldwide in 21 offices. The firm’s day-to-day administrative operations are centralized at a Global Operations Center in Wheeling, West Virginia.
