Congressman Wants Military Trial for Alledged Bomber

The leading Republican on the House Committee on Homeland Security says that the Nigerian man, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, accused of attacking an Detroit bound airliner should be tried by a military tribunal rather than a civilian court.

Rep. Peter King of New York said that it will be more difficult for authorities to get useful information from the suspect if he is given the legal rights afforded to defendants in civilian courts, such as the right to an attorney.

The suspect has been charged in federal court with trying to detonate the device last Friday.
