A decline in gross revenue in 2009 didn’t stop profits per equity partner (PPP) from inching up at Sidley Austin. The firm, which saw its number of equity partners decrease from 332 in 2008 to 304 last year, reported a PPP increase of just over two percent to $1.46 million. Gross revenue was $1.49 billion, a decrease of about nine percent from 2008.
The number of attorneys under the Sidley Austin umbrella also dropped, largely as a result of layoffs last March that saw 89 staff attorneys and 140 staff members axed. There are currently 1,588 attorneys, down from 1,702.
Sidley Austin is one of the oldest law firms in the world and has offices in 16 cities around the world.
