Remember the calls you used to get two and three times a day trying to scare you into buying a warranty for your car before it’s too late? Just as you suspected, those calls were ruled illegal and in violation of the National Do Not Call Registry and Section 5 of the FTC Act. Voice Touch, Inc., the company responsible for those calls, as well as James Dunne, owner, have been banned from telemarketing. The settlement between the FTC and Dunne was a paltry $655 thousand in comparison to the $48 million in consumer injury caused.
BLT.com reports: “The case was filed by the FTC in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of lllinois in May 2009. FTC lawyers Rozina Bhimani, David O’Toole and James Davis worked on the matter.” These American heroes have our gratitude.
Further action is being taken against Network Foundations, Voice Foundations, and Damian Kohlfeld for the calls. Those cases have not yet been resolved.
