President Obama has nominated Zane D. Memeger, a partner to Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, to become the U.S. attorney in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Memeger is a former prosecutor who spent 11 years as an assistant U.S. attorney before joining Morgan Lewis in 2006, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. At Morgan Lewis, Memeger represents corporate and white-collar clients facing criminal investigation. A spokesperson for Morgan Lewis declined comment on the nomination, other than to say Memeger was “honored” to be selected.
Memeger, who is a former mob prosecutor, was recommended to Obama by both of Pennsylvania’s U.S. senators, Bob Casey and Arlen Specter. Specter said Memeger had “excellent professional and academic credentials and a strong commitment to justice.”
Memeger would oversee an office of 130 prosecutors and 100 support staff if confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
