With the number of lawsuits related to the massive oil spill in the Gulf mounting daily, Tampa Bay Online reports that some of many of the high profile companies targeted by these suits in Florida courts have hired major firms from the state for their defense teams.
British Petroleum has hired Florida’s largest firm, Akerman Senterfitt. The maker of the infamous blowout “preventer”, Cameron International, has brought in Greenberg Traurig for its defense against legal actions. Halliburton Energy Services, the company that attempted to fill the surging well with concrete, has retained Broad and Cassel .
With almost an entire state of coast line, and many jobs tied to businesses that pepper the coast, the number of future suits against these companies can only grow.
