Eric D. Hargan, a former Deputy Secretary and Regulatory Policy Officer with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), has joined the 135-attorney Chicago office of international law firm Greenberg Traurig LLP. Hargan, now a shareholder in the firm’s health and FDA business practice, was a partner with McDermott Will & Emery.
Hargan focuses his practice on transactions, health care regulations and government relations. He also concentrates on corporate law across a variety of industries, particularly corporate finance, private equity, venture capital, and mergers and acquisitions transactions.
From 2003 to 2007, Hargan was a senior official at HHS. In addition to serving as Deputy Secretary, he served as Regulatory Policy Officer of the Department, overseeing the development and approval of all HHS, CMS and FDA regulations and significant guidances.
At HHS, Hargan oversaw all operations, including Medicare, Medicaid, the regulation of food, drugs and medical devices, public health, welfare programs, medical research and other activities.
