The Associated Press reports Elena Kagan will be sworn in as the Supreme Court’s 112th justice on Saturday and will be formally installed to the high court when it opens its new term on Oct. 1.
Prior to tomorrow’s swearing in ceremony, Kagan is scheduled to celebrate her confirmation in a White House ceremony with President Barack Obama Friday.
Obama called Kagan’s confirmation vote “an affirmation of (Kagan’s) character and her temperament, her open-mindedness and evenhandedness, her determination to hear all sides of every story and consider all possible arguments,” following yesterday’s landmark confirmation vote.
Kagan, 50, will become the fourth female justice in the in the history of the Supreme Court and its first in nearly 40 years to serve the high court with no previous judicial experience.
