Howrey has been named one of three “Powerhouse” firms for Intellectual Property litigation and one of the firms most recommended by large corporate clients by BTI Litigation Outlook 2011: Changes, Trends and Opportunities for Law Firms, a candid survey of over 300 General Counsel, practice leaders and in-house litigation counsel.
In the press release at PR Newswire, Howrey Chairman and CEO Robert F. Ruyak was quoted as saying: “About 95 percent of the work the firm does is litigation, and about 40 percent of that deals with IP, mostly in the area of patents. Howrey handles somewhere between 40 and 50 trials a year and has more seasoned trial lawyers than just about anyone.” Ruyak also credits the firm’s “Powerhouse” designation to its intense focus on both litigation and Intellectual Property law.
Howrey has nine offices in the United States, six offices in Europe and one in Taiwan that handle IP litigation. Howrey’s presence in Europe allows it to coordinate cases where they are filed presenting both an efficient and effective representation for the firm’s clients, as related IP cases are frequently filed in U.S. and European courts.
Recent wins for the firm include successful representation of Yahoo Inc. at trial in August in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, where the jury found that the search giant did not infringe a patent for electronic messaging technology held by Bright Response LLC.
In July, Howrey won for DA NanoMaterials, a Division of DuPont-Air Products. In this case, as in others, Howrey was brought in to replace another firm, issues were complex and required meticulous preparation of the relevant legal arguments so juries could understand the technicalities, and multimedia involvement was critical.
Founded in 1956, Howrey LLP is a global law firm with over 625 attorneys and more than 35 economic, financial and regulatory consultants. A consistent American Lawyer “A-List” and PLC Which Lawyer? “Global 50” firm, Howrey is one of the most frequently used law firms by the world’s leading companies.
