U.K-based Simmons & Simmons, which cut off merger talks with U.S.-based Mayer Brown this summer, is still considering entering the U.S. market through a merger with a U.S. firm, LegalWeek is reporting.
Though emphasizing that such a merger is not a “key strategic target” of the firm, the story revealed Simmons & Simmons management informed its membership during a partners’ weekend earlier this month that such a merger remains a possibility.
“The basic message is that a US merger is not a driver of our strategy but that we remain open-minded about the option,” Managing Partner Mark Dawkins told LegalWeek.
Simmons & Simmons currently has a presence in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. It is rated a top-15 firm in the U.K, according to LegalWeek.
