Goodwin Procter Chairman Receives ACCESS First One Award

Regina M. Pisa, chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter LLP , has been selected by The Action Center for Educational Services and Scholarships as a winner of the organization’s inaugural “First One” award for the private sector.

The ACCESS First One campaign highlights the power of higher education to propel individuals and families out of poverty and toward lives of opportunity and choice.  The First One Awards honor established leaders in Boston who are first generation college graduates.

“Our selection committee was inspired by Regina’s story and accomplishments, and I know that Regina’s example will also inspire others to follow in her footsteps,” said Tom Birmingham, senior counsel, Edwards Angell Palmer & Dodge LLP, who served as Chair of the awards committee.

ACCESS works to ensure that all young people in Massachusetts have the financial information and resources necessary to find an affordable path to – and through – a postsecondary education. To accomplish this, the organization provides free financial aid advice and advocacy to all the students of Boston and Springfield.

ACCESS has helped students secure more than $150 million in financial aid in the last three years alone and has awarded more than $5 million in need-based last dollar scholarships since its founding, with a 75 percent college graduation rate for the students it serves.

In addition to her work as chairman and managing partner of Goodwin Procter, Pisa’s law practice focuses primarily on mergers, acquisitions and restructurings in the financial services industry, representing both banks and investment companies. In 2010, she was inducted into the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Academy of Distinguished Bostonians.

Goodwin Procter has more than 850 attorneys in offices in Boston, Hong Kong, London, Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and Washington, D.C.
