A suspicious backpack left unattended on a bench along the route of the annual Martin Luther King Day parade in Spokane, Washington, contained an explosive device capable of inflicting multiple casualties, according the FBI.  The backpack was spotted by city workers who alerted police.  The parade was rerouted and the bomb squad was called in.  The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Spokane and neighboring northern Idaho have had numerous anti government and white supremacist incidents over the last thirty years, and the FBI has already referred to the bomb found on Monday as an act of domestic terrorism designed to advance a political or social agenda.
