Law Firms Going Green

Law firms in the Washington area are making changes to their buildings that will basically change everything. These law firms are taking a “greener” approach to the office by using recycled floors and cabinets that have been made using natures finest products. These law firms also plan on using natural light in place of traditional lighting methods.

An International law firm located in the Washington area, Squire Sanders & Dempsey, is the law firm that is planning on making these necessary changes that are good for the environment. Members of this law firm hope that their new office will receive a high rating from LEED.

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design which measures how well an office does at using only environmentally safe products for its construction. Some of the measurements include what type of natural lighting is included, how much energy is saved, what types of energy efficient products are being used, and what types of recycled materials are also being used.

The Squire Sanders & Dempsey law firm consists of over 60 attorneys and its building consists of 11 floors. This law firm has also received recognition from LEED but hopes that they will receive the highest honor with the newest changes that are being made to the office.

Squire Sanders & Dempsey is just one of the many law firms in the Washington area that is making renovations to meet the LEED guidelines and requirements. Some of the other law firms who are on board with going green include Vinson & Elkins and Hunton & Williams.

Law firms going green may seem new to people who have never heard about LEED or about law firms using recycled material for their office. However, while it is new to some, many law firms have been making these changes to go green for several years. In fact, law firms in Washington are not the only firms to make these environmentally-friendly changes in the United States. Boston, Chicago, and New York are just three of the many other cities in which law firms are working hard to build their office in a way that is safe and better for the environment. These firms are hoping to receive some of the best honors from the LEED program.

Going green is not only beneficial to the environment, it is also beneficial for the law firms because it helps them save energy which will help them to save money over a period of time. A lot of energy can be wasted in large law firm offices with lights, computers, and other forms of technology and electronics. Going green is just another great solution that will save law firms money while also working for the environment instead of against it.
