Joseph F. Murphy, former Maryland Court of Appeals Judge, is joining the law firm of Silverman, Thompson, Slutkin & White. Murphy joins his daughter Erin and a talented group fo lawyers at the firm. Murphy will be the head of the law firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution practice while also assisting with litigation issues.

Judge Murphy released the following statement about joining the law firm of Silverman, Thompson, Slutkin & White:

Murphy was appointed to the Circuit Court for Baltimore County in 1984. Prior to that appointment, Murphy practiced law as a staff attorney for Legal Aid. Murphy also worked as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, worked for the Deputy State’s Attorney for Baltimore City, and was a partner in the law firm of White & Murphy in Towson. In 1993, Murphy was appointed to the Court of Special Appeals, becoming its chief judge only three years later. He held this position until 2007, which is when he was appointed to the Court of Appeals. Murphy also teaches Evidence at the University of Baltimore Law School and is the author of the Maryland Evidence Handbook. Murphy also teaches Trial Practice at the University of Maryland Law School.
