San Juan Mayor Jorge Santini brought the awkward family photo to another level. Santini’s family smiling broadly from their 2011 holiday card wasn’t out of the ordinary.
Being flanked by a stuffed leopard killing an antelope—accented by a little girl striking a pose—didn’t necessarily translate into Christmas cheer, according to HuffPost Latino Voices.
However, the photo wasn’t the sole source of weirdness. Its accompanying caption added to the bizarre feel.
“May this Christmas illuminate your dreams,” the caption loosely translates into English.
Political opponents claimed it was Santini’s understated virtual subliminal message to rivals in the nation’s upcoming election. But Santini insisted the card was only meant to promote San Juan Wildlife Museum.
