Casey Anthony has finally resurfaced to the public eye, after living for six months in seclusion. Where did she appear? Anthony appeared in a four-minute video diary that someone posted online. The video did not make reference to her murder trial, her deceased child, her parents or where she is located.
“It’s just a little surreal how much things have changed since July and how many things haven’t changed,” Anthony said. “But the good thing is that things are starting to look up and things are starting to change — in a good way. I just hope they stay…that things stay good and that they only get better.”
J. Cheney Mason, a defense attorney, said that Anthony is, “maintaining some notes for her personal use and for future counseling purposes. She did not release this video to YouTube and does not know how they got it. It could not have been legally obtained and was not authorized.”
Mason claims that Anthony did not release the video. He said that the release of the video is unauthorized and offers a suggestion that it might have been hacked. There is still no word on who uploaded the video to the internet but by the end of the day Thursday, clips of the video were on dozens of websites.
The reported date of the video is October 13, 2011, according to Anthony. In the video, Anthony says that she expects to post more videos even though she is not comfortable on camera. She mentioned her new electronic equipment and an adopted dog in the video.
“This video is a preview of everything we predicted she would do in court — speak when it’s for profit. She has gamed the system,” said lawyer John Morgan, representing Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Fernandez-Gonzalez filed a defamation lawsuit against Anthony claiming her reputation was tainted when Anthony said a babysitter by the same name kidnapped Caylee.
“I guess her objection to filing her deposition with the court for safety concerns due to the disclosure of her appearance was a sham upon the court. I don’t think this well-respected and thoughtful judge will be happy or amused,” Morgan said.
The video was recorded in a wood-paneled room, saying that she is excited that she can talk with others using Skype, take pictures, and keep a video log.
“It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to call something mine and now I have something even, you know, as silly as saying that I have a computer, and a camera and a phone…” she said.
“I actually now paid for my own computer. The camera was a gift. But these are things that are mine — that I don’t have to — I don’t know — that I don’t have to give back. It’s kind of nice, finally, to be able to say that I have some belongings that are mine that I will take with me after I leave here next year. I’ll still be here at least until February…the end of February.”
