Greg Kelly, news anchor of Fox 5’s “Good Day New York” and son of NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly, has been accused of sexual assault by a woman, whose identity has still not been revealed. The woman has also told investigators that the rape left her pregnant because of which she had to get an abortion. The alleged assault happened on October 8, 2011 and the woman walked into the 13th Precinct on January 25 to report the assault.
Greg Kelly, who has served as a fighter pilot in Iraq and has been a White House correspondent, has denied the charges. His lawyer Andrew Lankler released a statement saying that Kelly “strenuously denies any wrongdoing of any kind,” and also said that “We know that the district attorney’s investigation will prove Mr. Kelly’s innocence.”
Because Greg’s father is the police commissioner of New York, the investigation is now being handled by the office of District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr., instead of the normal procedure of the NYPD investigating the case.
43-year old Kelly, who is single, allegedly met the woman on the street and then went out for drinks with her in a public place. He then allegedly walked around lower Manhattan with her before going to her office in a law firm where he is supposed to have raped her. The woman, who is around 30, works as a paralegal. Her boyfriend told Commissioner Kelly at a public event, “Your son ruined my girlfriend’s life”. The commissioner asked him “Well, what do you mean?” But the boyfriend did not want to talk about it there, so the commissioner asked him to write a letter.
Kelly on Thursday took a leave of absence from his duties as Co-host of “Good Day New York.”
