The star of television show ‘White Collar,’ Matt Bomer, is incredibly proud of his life off of the television screen despite playing plenty of different roles on the screen.
Bomer announced in public during his acceptance speech at the Steve Chase Humanitarian Awards that he is gay. The event took place on Saturday of this past weekend.
“I’d really especially like to thank my beautiful family: Simon, Kit, Walker, Henry,” he said in front of the audience. Bomer was accepting the New Generation Arts and Activism Award.
“Thank you for teaching me what unconditional love is. You will always be my proudest accomplishment.”
Simon Halls, Bomer’s partner, is a publicist for Slate PR. He represents actor Neil Patrick Harris from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ and Ryan Murphy, the co-creator of ‘Glee.’ Both of these men are openly gay.
Bomer constantly dodged questions and rumors about his sexuality once he appeared in the spotlight. His work fighting HIV/AIDS has possibly aided in his decision to publicly say that he is gay.
“My world has really been rocked by doing research for ‘Normal Heart,’ just in terms of the history of HIV and AIDS,” he said. Bomer has a role in the adaptation from Larry Kramer.
“And so I’m very proud to receive this award from an organization that is at the forefront of carrying the torch into a very, very bright future.”
Bomer is appearing in ‘Normal Heart’ and will star as a male stripper in the movie ‘Magic Mike’ with Alex Pettyfer and Channing Tatum.
In an interview from 2010, Bomer talked about his sexuality rumors but did not completely deny the rumors about his sexuality.
“I don’t care about that at all,” Bomer said in the interview back in 2010 with Details. “I’m completely happy and fulfilled in my personal life.”
