Good morning everyone! Who is excited that today is Friday!?!? IAM. I’ve had a very busy week and I am so excited to have plenty of “me” time this weekend! You’d think I’d be tired of “me” time, since I live alone, but when I say “me” time, I just mean being a lazy butt. Tomorrow morning I have a 13 mile run, and other than that and a book club meeting Saturday morning, I have absolutely nothing planned!
Yes, I have a TON of school work to do, but I also have plenty of time to do it! I fully intend to hang out in a coffee shop and get some work done, hang out at my brother and sister-in-law’s apartment with Molly, read some more of The Maze Runner (I AM HOOKED) and catch up on all the shows that I’ve missed out on this week (currently watching the Bachelor…).
Do you prefer having a zero-plan weekend, or a busy weekend? I’m more of a fan of just 1-2 items planned, and then lazy/relaxing time.
One of the busy, but fun, activities that I had this week was an alumnae dinner with some Kappa Deltas! There are several alumnae groups in the Chicago area, but this one is the “Downtown” group and we try to meet up once every two months or so. Our meet-up this week was at a restaurant in the Gold Coast area called Jake Melnick’s, which claims to have the best wings in Chicago! Sadly, I did not try the wings, so I can’t vouch for their claim.

The menu was basically bar food – plenty of greasy appetizers and a lot of burgers. I considered getting a burger without the bun, but decided I didn’t want to spend the money on a burger but only get part of the food. I ended up getting the Garbage Salad, which was huge! This was the second half that I ended up taking home to eat the next day.
Now, I’m not a fan of bar salads, but this was absolutely perfect! The dressing was great and light and the ingredients were all amazing. The chicken was a bit overcooked, but other than that it was delicious! I had a really great time chatting with some women that I’d met before, and meeting a few new ones. One of the girls is a first year law student at another school in Chicago! Don’t worry, we’re already facebook friends…
So I have a very amusing story from my trip home. I thought getting home would be really easy, I just had to walk to the bus a couple blocks away and it would take me right by apartment, only a 20 min ride. Simple, right?
Um no. So apparently before I headed for the bus, one of the underground subways (the red line of the EL) was filled with smoke and something was on fire? Not quite sure of the details, but there were plenty of fire trucks, streets were blocked off, and the Red Line, obviously, was shut down. Because so many people couldn’t take the EL, they were taking the bus.
Can you guess which bus happened to go in the same direction? My bus. As the bus is pulling up to the stop I’m waiting at, I am all the sudden shocked by the fact that it is JAM PACKED. I barely squeezed myself on, and then the bus driver, who didn’t normally drive that route, had to take our advice in driving around the blocked off roads! It was pretty crazy to say the least.
You know what made it crazier? Well I’m standing there with my leftovers and this kid (okay, he was in college) made a comment about my carry-out container and then started up a conversation. Now, when I first saw him I thought he was something out of a teen movie – that moody, artsy guy. Um, I was right. He’s a film major and in a band. Now, I have no problem with film makers or bands, but the artsy type of guy is really, really not my type. Haha, I thought the conversation was horribly awkward, seeing as we had nothing in common. Let’s just say, it hit the weather, and then silence.
The best part? He then invited me to see his band play and… wait for it… gave me his card. Yes, he had a card. I died of laughter on the inside. You may be thinking, I should be flattered! And I was, however, the absurdity of the situation and the fact that he didn’t gather that 1) I am probably 4 years older than him and 2) we have zero in common, was just too much.
Granted, I was wearing my knitted white hat, so clearly I fooled him into thinking I might know, oh, ANYTHING?, about music or film. I get my new music from the most purchased list on iTunes.
Yep. I’m sexy and I know it. And also apparently look at myself and not the camera when I take pictures… Winning, Katie. Winning.
Well, now it is time for me to get my butt into gear, I have a 13 miler to run! Oh wait, and did I mention that I will be running in the snow? Um yea.
Remember that Camelbak pack I got? No way was I giving up trying that out this week. I am going hardcore and running in the snow. If I don’t blog on Saturday, then I slipped, fell and froze to death in the icy tundra that is the lake front. Or follow me on twitter and find out sooner…
