The former mistress of John Edwards, who has received a lot of controversy within the past few years after cheating on his wife who was stricken with cancer at the time, has managed to settle a lawsuit with the former presidential candidate, ensuring that the sex tapes that were once made between the two be destroyed as soon as possible.
Rielle Hunter, who was the mistress of John Edwards during a period of time when he was still married, sued Andrew Young and Cheri Young, a married couple, claiming that the husband and wife invaded her privacy by trying to claim items that belonged to her, including a sex tape between her and John Edwards during one of their love affairs.
The settlement shows that the videos, including the sex tape and all photographs must be destroyed. However, Hunter was not rewarded with any money and Andrew and Cheri Young refuse to admit that they are liable for any of this hoopla.
The sex tape will be destroyed and the Young’s must ensure that the copy that was made of the video is also destroyed. The couple will receive videos and photos that belonged to them but they will not be able to use those that have Rielle Hunter or her daughter, fathered by John Edwards, in the picture.
Young is the author of a book, entitled The Politician: An Insider’s Account of John Edwards Pursuit of the Presidency and the Scandal That Brought Him Down. The book provides detailed information on Edward’s plan to accept money from benefactors and use it to keep his relationship with Rielle a secret, hiding the fact that he was cheating on his cancer-stricken wife. There are even some plans to turn the tell-all book into a film feature. Several producers are interested in taking the project on, turning the book into a movie.
Because there is a gag order, neither Rielle Hunter nor the Young’s can talk about the settlement or make any comments involving the settlement at all. This settlement that was made also has nothing to do with the current criminal content allegations against the Young’s.
Edwards will be on trial this year as well, after being indicted for conspiracy, lying, issuing false statements, and using campaign incentives to cover up the fact that he was, in fact, having an affair with another woman, also getting her pregnant. His trial is currently pending although many are expecting Edwards to be fried when it comes to court. Edwards still, to this day, denies that he has done anything wrong, other than cheating on his wife at a time when she needed him most. However, if Edwards is convicted of the allegations he is accused of, he could end up in jail with a 30 year sentence, also having to pay nearly $1.5 million in fines.
