Trevor Gladston, an alleged robber, did not have cab fare when he robbed a Wells Fargo bank located in Chamblee, Georgia. Gladston left the bank without anything after he handed one of the tellers a note demanding money.
“[Gladston] came in and handed a note that said something to the effect of ‘Give me the money or we start shooting,'” Chamblee Police Chief Marc Johnson said. “Obviously, feeling safe behind the bulletproof glass, the teller just stepped back and the individual left without any money.”
When Gladston entered a cab that was going to take him to the bus station, he realized he had a bit of a problem. Upon returning to the bus station in the cab, the taxi driver was worried that Gladston was going to skimp out on the fare since he told her that he needed to get the money out of his vehicle. The driver transported Gladston from the bus station to the bank and back again. When in the parking lot, the cab driver blocked Gladston’s vehicle with the cab so he could not drive away and flagged down a police officer. The officer, who did not know about the attempted robbery, suggested that Gladston return to the bank to withdraw money for the cab fare.
The officer was able to convince Gladston to return to the bank to withdraw the money.
“[The officer] just convinced the guy that you need to get some money and pay your bill or else you’ll end up in trouble,” Johnson said.
When Gladston returned to the bank to illegally withdraw money for the cab fare he was immedialtely identified as the person who tried to rob the bank not long before his return. After being identified, Gladston was arrested and then charged with attempted armed robbery. He was transported to the Chamblee Detention Center before he was sent to the DeKalb County Jail.
