Meghan McCain, the daughter of Senator John McCain (Republican-Arizona), recently had an interview published in Playboy. McCain decided to discuss her opinions on the 2012 primary cycle, which detailed a lack of excitement in this year’s group of candidates.
“It’s just been so lame,” she said. “So many debates, so much blather, so much oversaturation.”
McCain’s father John was the GOP nominee for president back in 2008. She said that the primaries do not provide much excitement this year.
“Granted, my father is not running, so I’m biased, and we have an incumbent president, which changes things,” she said. “But where’s the electricity? You’d think someone would rise up and tap the frustration and energy of the Occupy movement or the Tea Party, but it just hasn’t happened yet.”
McCain did concede that a strong vice president candidate could help to strengthen the party’s chances once the general election comes around in November.
“The Republicans need someone to excite younger people, independents, Hispanic voters and the disenfranchised,” she said. “I think if Chris Christie is the vice presidential nominee we can change the weather and have a very good chance of beating Obama. I love that he’s no bullshit.”
McCain has voiced her opinions on the presidential field recently, calling Rick Santorum ‘unelectable’ last month. She also went as far as to say that if Santorum was running against President Barack Obama then it would be an “absolute bloodbath” McCain is an advocate for gay rights and has described Santorum’s views on same-sex marriage as ‘gross.’ McCain’s father has endorsed Mitt Romney in the GOP race. She said that Newt Gingrich should “bow out with grace” from the race. She said that the party is being hurt by Gingrich’s insistence on remaining in the race. In 2011, McCain called Gingrich’s run a ‘vanity project.’
