Will Ferrell was a guest on ‘Conan’ Wednesday night and he showed up dressed as one of his most popular characters, Ron Burgundy. You are correct, the same Ron Burgundy from ‘Anchorman.’ Ferrell appeared on the show to announce that plans are in the works for a sequel to the first ‘Anchorman,’ which was released back in 2004. There are no definitive details as to a release date or a shooting date for the second film yet.
“I actually have an announcement,” Ferrell said. “I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas, to our friends in Spain, Turkey and the U.K., including England, that as of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel to ‘Anchorman.’ It is official. There will be a sequel to ‘Anchorman.’ ”
The sketch to announce the new movie took around five minutes to complete and it complemented host Conan O’Brien and his sidekick, Andy Richter as ‘outstanding broadcasters.’ As soon as Ferrell announced the news, the crowd roared in approval and Ferrell exited the stage and was not seen from again. The original movie, ‘Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy,’ made close to $89 million in worldwide ticket sales when it was in theaters back in 2004.
