Daughter Admits She Wrongfully Accused her Father of Rape, After 9 Years of Prison

Cassandra Kennedy has admitted to lying when she said her father raped her, back in 2001, when she was 11, but this comes only after he served 9-years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. She said she did it as revenge for their parents’ divorce, but now that she herself has avoided any form of prosecution for perjury, responses are mixed.

Cassandra, now 23, said she had to tell the truth because she felt guilty. Her January statement, and the details she gave, were enough to fully exonerate Thomas Edward Kennedy for the vicious accusations that a jury felt substantial enough to convict him for.

Most controversial about this uncommon occurrence is Cowlitz County Prosecutor Sue Baurs decision to take no legal action against Kennedy, on the grounds that she both did not want sexual harassment victims to lose the courage to report what happened to them, and also on the grounds that she wanted liars to also feel the courage to tell the truth, and confess that they made a wrongful accusation.

“This is something my whole office is talking about, “ said Baurs. “This is the kind of thing that shouldn’t happen.”

The father made no comment other than that he wanted to get on with his life.
