In a shocking incident at a Connecticut Kindergarten, a five-year old boy was discovered showing packets of white powder to his classmates. The teacher collected the packets and a field test found the powder to be heroin. The child’s stepfather showed up at the school later on when he couldn’t find the packets and was arrested. On Tuesday the stepfather of the child was arraigned on three drug-possession charges.

On Monday, the stepson of one Santos Roman, 35, was found showing off packets of a white powdery substance to his Kindergarten classmates in a proud act of show-and-tell. Detective Keith Bryant of the Bridgeport Police Department, Connecticut, told the media, “He was waving it around.” When the teacher noticed the act, she confiscated the packets and notified her superiors immediately.

The authorities called in experts who did a field test on the spot and determined that the substance was heroin. The stepfather got caught when he reached the school in search of his stuff. The police told the media, “He went to retrieve it, and it wasn’t there so he came back for his stepson.”

Santos Roman was immediately arrested and later charged on drug-possession charges including the intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school and the risk of injury to a minor. Roman is held on $100,000 bail.

Bridgeport Superintendent Paul Vallas said he believes the boy took his stepfather’s jacket to school without being aware of the content. When the time for a show-and-tell presentation came at class, according to the Connecticut Post the boy took out 50 packets of heroin from the jacket. However, police authorities have also reported different views and that the boy had only waved about the packets in his cubicle.

The child was taken into custody of Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families. Even though the boy’s mother showed up at school to take back the child the authorities placed the child in care of his grandmother.
