Bringing the curtains down on their seven-year long marriage, early this week, Latin pop singer Marc Anthony filed for divorce from Jennifer Lopez.
The petition in Los Angeles Superior Court cites irreconcilable differences as the ground for divorce. The couple had announced in July that they were planning to split up.
Filing under his real name, Marco Muniz, Anthony has also asked for joint legal and physical custody of the twin children Max and Emme, aged 4 years. Lopez was listed in the documents as Jennifer Muniz.
Anthony also asked the court to ignore requests from Lopez for spousal support. Considering that Jennifer Lopez is currently making about $12 million only from â€American Idol’ she is hardly in a position to ask for â€support’ anyway. But Anthony is not keen on leaving things to chance.
Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony had married after Lopez’s engagement to actor Ben Affleck had broken and Anthony divorced former Miss Puerto Rico, Dyanara Torres. The coupled married in 2004.
Lopez and Anthony continue to work together and appearing together on the television talent show “Q’Viva! The Chosen.”
Their relations and the divorce seem amicable, and Lopez is already dating 25-year old Casper Smart, while Anthony is dating Venezuelan model Shannon de Lima.
Both Lopez and Anthony have expressed to the media that the divorce has made them closer and they are getting along better than ever! Their friends report that since the split they have been co-parenting with minimal issues. That’s a great reason to get a divorce truly – your bonding becomes stronger. Maupassant’s doctrine of â€marriage kills love’ could be logically extended to mean divorce rekindles love, of course.
This one would be the third for Jennifer Lopez who has already married and divorced Ojani Noa, dancer Cris Judd before Anthony. Significantly her new boyfriend is also the dancer with whom she recently filmed the hot number â€Dance Again.’
