Have you ever worried about someone spitting in your food or drink at a restaurant? Well, for customers of a McDonald’s in South Carolina should know that those worries have come to fruition recently. Deputies from a county in South Carolina say that an employee from McDonald’s decided to spit in cups of iced tea after the drinks were returned because they were not sweet enough for the customers.
The suspect in the case is 19-year-old Marvin Washington Jr. and he was arrested on Wednesday of this week and charged with malicious tampering with food. Investigators from Greenville County said that surveillance cameras show Washington leaning over the cups of iced tea before filling them on Saturday at the restaurant located in Simpsonville. The customers told officers that they saw the spit when they took the lids off the cups to add more sugar because they said that the tea still was not sweet enough for them.
The owner of that specific McDonald’s said that he follows very strict food safety procedures and asked the public not to judge the restaurant and its employees until all of the information was released to the public. It is not known if Washington has a lawyer or not yet in this case.
