Former Sidley associate and Harvard Law School graduate David Otunga skipped the Monday’s RAW Supershow to support his fiancée Jennifer Hudson’s court appearance as a witness. Hudson was called to testify against David Balfour, the estranged husband of Jennifer’s sister Julia, accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and nephew. Three years earlier, on the day Julia phoned Jennifer hysterically to tell her of the incident, she was in Tampa with David, and Julia phoned him first.
David Otunga is a rare combination of lawyer, professional wrestler, and reality television actor with excellence in all fields. Otunga’s relationship with the court is hardly over and he loves to get back to the court environment on occasions like this.
Otunga is also portraying a legal advisor on a television program where he helps his wrestler friends to file a lawsuit in employment law. However, Otunga’s legal forays are hardly contained to on-screen appearances.
According to TMZ, earlier this month, Otunga had appeared in a pro bono case before an administrative law judge of the New York State Department of Labor. The case was over wrongful denial of unemployment benefits.
Otunga won the appeal for the client, as he claims he “smoked the witness during cross-examination.”
Otunga is a two-time WWE Tag Team Champion who enrolled in the Illinois bar and worked with Sidley Austin LLP before his career in wrestling. He is engaged to Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson and has a child with her named David Daniel Otunga Jr.
According to experts, Otunga’s days with the courtroom are hardly over, and the wrestling champion keeps in touch with the court environment and Harvard Law connections and seems to thoroughly enjoy being present at court.
