On Friday, Christian groups in South Korea made a public outcry to cancel Lady Gaga’s concert in South Korea, terming it as “pornographic” and accusing Lady Gaga of promoting homosexuality. The government of South Korea has already bowed to the furious mob and issued a ban preventing under-18s from attending the concert. However, protesters want Lady Gaga stopped and hold that a ban against minors from attending the show is insufficient.

Yoon Jung-hoon, a reverend has organized a “Civilians Network against the Lady Gaga Concert” with immense public support. The reverend said, “Some people can accept this as another culture but its impact is huge beyond art and debases religions. Even adults can’t see her performance which is too homosexual and pornographic.”

The hit song of Lady Gaga, “Born This Way” is perceived as promoting the empowerment of gay men and women, and is held in South Korea as promoting an immoral lifestyle. South Korea has the second largest Christian community in Asia after Philippines. The tour, named “Born This Way” has already kicked off amidst fanfare and Lady Gaga has been in Seoul for close to a week.

Lady Gaga tweeted that she was “Nervous for tonight. Hope I make little monsters happy and proud.”

Yoon’s group has more than 5000 supporters on Facebook gathered against the concert. Some supporters have also asked for a boycott of Hyundai Card, the sponsors of Lady Gaga on this tour. The protesters have threatened they would also boycott Hyundai Motor Co.

The council issued a statement saying, “The Christian Council of Korea with 12 million Christians and 55,000 churches will take all kinds of measures such as boycotting Hyundai Card to root out this kind of obscene culture.”

As expected, reverend Yoon said that he would be attending the concert solely for the purpose of ‘monitoring’ the performance for homosexual content. So, we know at least one of the spectators whose going to be at the concert.
