Clive Palmer, a billionaire from Australia, has announced that he has been building a replica of the Titanic as a tourist ship. The maiden voyage of the ship is schedule for 2016, which would be the 20 year anniversary of James Cameron’s ‘Titanic.’ Palmer was asked if the ship would be unsinkable and he did not hesitate to answer matter-of-factly.
“Of course it will sink if you put a hole in it. It is going to be designed so it won’t sink. It will be designed as a modern ship with all the technology to ensure that doesn’t happen. But, of course, if you are superstitious like you are, you never know what could happen.”
The world just finished celebrating a month of event commemorating the 100-year anniversary of the ship’s sinking on multiple Titanic memorial cruises and other events across the globe. With this news, fans of the Titanic are now one step closer to traveling on a ship that is not too far off from the real thing. It has been reported that the replica ship will hold 1,680 passengers, which is less than the original ship. The replica ship is one of four ships that Palmer has asked Chinese shipyard CSC Jinling to construct for him. Palmer has not mentioned the cost of the project yet.
