NJ Mom Arrested for 5-Year-Old Daughter Burned While Tanning

A mom from New Jersey has vehemently denied that her daughter, all of five, was burnt in a tanning salon. She instead claims that she got sunburnt elsewhere. The mother, Patricia Krentcil, claims she brought her daughter with her to the salon but did not put her in a tanning booth, which would have exposed her to the UV rays.

“I tan, she doesn’t tan,” Krentcil said. “I’m in the booth, she’s in the room. That’s all there is to it.”

The father of the girl, Rich Krentcil, claims that his daughter burned from playing outside during a recently hot day. It was originally reported that the girl’s body was burnt from a stint in a tanning bed at the salon where her mother tans.

The mother, 44 and from Nutley, New Jersey, has been charged with second-degree child endangerment by the Essex County Prosecutor’s office. If Krentcil is found guilty of the charge she will spend some time in jail, a place where the sun does not shine too often. Krentcil was arrested by police on Tuesday after officials from the girl’s school reported that the student had a very severe sunburn. Rich Krentcil has been awarded temporary custody of the girl. It is against the law in New Jersey for anyone under the age of 14 to enter a tanning booth.
