Woman from Tennessee Gives Birth Not Knowing She was Pregnant

A couple from Tennessee is declaring their newborn daughter a ‘miracle baby’ because the mother did not know she was pregnant. Amanda and Billy Prentice have tried to have a child for years. Last month, doctors told the family from Lawrenceburg that Amanda was pregnant. Then, only five hours later, Amanda and Billy became parents.

“This is Allie McKinley Rose,” Amanda Prentice said. “She’s a miracle.”

On April 23, Amanda started suffering from seizures that caused her husband to take her to the hospital in Lawrenceburg. At the hospital, Amanda and Billy were told that Amanda’s life was being threatened.

“So they LifeFlighted me to Vanderbilt Hospital,” Amanda Prentice said.

Doctors told Amanda that the seizures were being caused by complications from pregnancy. The news was shocking to the family and to Amanda, who did not find out until two days later because she was unconscious while in the hospital.

“The doctor came in and said, ‘I’ve got good news and bad news,'” Amanda Prentice said. “He said, ‘your blood pressure has skyrocketed here in the last few days, but you’ve got a baby.'”

The baby, Allie, was born at 5 pounds and 5 ounces.

“I never felt her move,” Amanda Prentice said. “I wore the same clothes that I had worn for two years.”

“The only signs she had was her feet and ankles had swollen up, and that was it,” Billy Prentice said.

Congratulations cards and well wishes are pouring into the family from people all across Lawrence County after news of their daughter’s birth hit the news.

“We had been trying for four years and didn’t think this was gonna happen,” Amanda Prentice said.

“We had talked about adopting, and now we’ve got our miracle baby,” Bill Prentice said. “Five hours after they first told me she was pregnant, I was a dad. Where most people have eight or nine months, I had five hours.”

Amanda and Allie are healthy and doing very well.
