One of the stars of the television show ‘Swamp People,’ Mitchell Guist, passed away on a boat in Louisiana swamp country, per a local sheriff. Guist was 48 at the time of his death, which was caused when he fell while on the boat. The boat was on the Intracoastal Waterway close to Pierre Part. Mike Waguespack, the Assumption Parish Sheriff, confirmed the death of Guist. The show airs on the History Channel and it follows the lives of alligator hunters working in the Atchafalaya swamp country of Louisiana.
“We are extremely saddened to report that our friend and beloved member of the “Swamp People” family, Mitchell Guist, has passed away,” The History Channel said Monday. “Mitchell passed on the swamp, doing what he loved. We appreciate your respect for the Guist family’s privacy and hope you join us in sending our thoughts and prayers to his brother, Glenn, and the rest of the Guist family.”
Guist passed away after being taken to the Teche Regional Medical Center after falling while he was on the waterway close to 9 a.m. on Monday, according to Waguespack. The boat returned to a landing in St. Martin after he suffered his fall in order to be transported to a hospital. Waguespack said that it appears Guist had a seizure but the exact cause of death and the fall have not been released. Locals tried everything in their power to revive Guist with CPR, according to 911 calls, which were released to the public earlier today. Witnesses to the incident asked for a helicopter or ambulances to be sent to the landing area in order to transport Guist to the hospital.
“You say he’s in cardiac arrest?” the 911 dispatcher asked.
“Yes sir, we’re blowing and pumping the guy’s chest right now … It looks like he may have had a heart attack,” the caller said.
