A police officer was forced to fire his weapon in an incident that has left one man dead and another man hospitalized near Miami’s MacArthur Causeway. Police from the city of Miami said that the incident, which was an assault, began around 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. One police officer responded to a call regarding two men fighting in the middle of the bike path on the Biscayne Boulevard exit. The officer who responded to the call said he saw one man eating another man’s face upon arrival.
When the officer arrived he saw a naked man chomping on a second man’s head. The naked man was ordered to step away from the victim but decided to continue assaulting him. This is when the officer decided to fire his weapon. Even after he was shot, the attacker continued to chew on the victim, which forced the officer to continually fire his weapon. Witnesses claim they heard at least six shots during the altercation. According to police reports, the victim had ‘virtually no face’ and was not recognizable.
“[Officers] attempted to separate them, there was some sort of confrontation,” Willie Moreno, a spokesman for the Miami Police, said. The naked man died at the scene of the altercation and the victim was transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. The victim, the naked man, and the officer involved in the incident have yet to be identified by police.
