Luka Rocco Magnotta, a suspected killer from Canada, was arrested in Germany at the end of a worldwide manhunt. Magnotta is suspected of being a cannibal and a necrophiliac. Magnotta was wanted in Montreal by police for dismembering a student from China. Montreal police have said they have been informed of Magnotta’s arrest but do not have any other information at this time.
“We have the information. We’re verifying [the details] right now.” a spokeswoman for the Montreal police said.
A statement by Interpol was released on Monday that said Magnotta was captured in the capital of Germany.
“Interpol congratulates all of the authorities and its National Central Bureaus in Canada, France, Germany and elsewhere for their collaborative efforts which led to the rapid arrest of this wanted individual,” said the Head of Interpol’s Fugitives unit, Stefano Carvelli.
Magnotta is 29 and works as a low-budget porn actor. Montreal police suspect that Magnotta brutally murdered Lin Jun, a 33-year-old student from China who was studying at Montreal’s Concordia University. The murder was reportedly recorded and then uploaded to the internet. Jun had been reported missing on May 24.
An arrest warrant was issued for Magnotta across the country of Canada by authorities and was added to the list of wanted persons by Interpol. The charges against Magnotta could include first-degree murder, publishing obscene material, committing indignity on a dead body, mailing “obscene, indecent, immoral or scurrilous” material and criminally harassing Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper and several unnamed members of Parliament, according to police.
It is believed that Magnotta flew to France from Montreal after he murdered Jun. Mayor of the 17th district of Paris, Brigitte Kuster, said that surveillance video caught Magnotta dining at a restaurant and maybe even at a hotel this past weekend.
“He was captured by surveillance cameras at the cafe,” Kuster said. “But at the hotel, he wasn’t visible because he was wearing a hat.”
