According to a news site in Brazil, a two-year-old boy sat up while in a coffin at his funeral service on Saturday to ask for water. The boy then sat back down lifeless. The boy, Kelvin Santos, stopped breathing while receiving treatment for pneumonia at a hospital in Belem, Brazil. Santos was declared dead on Friday night at 7:40 p.m. and then his body was given to his family in a plastic bag.
Throughout the night the family held a wake, with the body on display in an open coffin. On Saturday, around one hour prior to the start of the funeral, Santos sat up in the coffin and said, ‘Daddy, can I have some water?’.
Antonio Santos, the father, said, ‘Everybody started to scream, we couldn’t believe our eyes. Then we thought a miracle had taken place and our boy had come back to life. Then Kelvin just laid back down, the way he was. We couldn’t wake him. He was dead again.’
The boy was rushed back to Aberlardo Santos hospital in Belem by his father. Doctors examined the boy again and said he was showing no signs of life.
Antonio Santos said, ‘They assured me that he really was dead and gave me no explanation for what we had just seen and heard.’
The family waited an hour before starting the funeral in the hope that he would wake one more time but wound up burying the boy around 5 p.m. that day. A complaint has been filed with the police by Antonio Santos, who is convinced that his son was the victim of medical malpractice.
Antonio Santos said, ‘Fifteen minutes after rushing him away for resuscitation, they came and told me he was dead and handed me his body. Perhaps they didn’t examine him properly. Dead people don’t just wake up and talk. I’m determined to find out the truth.’
