A father who reportedly killed an acquaintance will not be charged, according to Sheriff’s deputies in Texas. The father killed his acquaintance after he found out that the acquaintance sexually abused his 4-year-old daughter. The incident occurred on Saturday during a social event in Shiner. The girl went into the family’s home while the rest of the family was tending horses outside the home.
According to Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon, the father of the girl caught a 47-year-old man trying to molest his daughter. The father casually knew the man involved in the incident. Harmon said that the girl’s father punched the man in the head until he died of his wounds. The names of the girl and the father have not been released and Harmon said the girl is “ok, besides the obvious mental trauma” of what happened.
The Sheriff’s office said it will not file charges against the father and will defer the issue to a grand jury to determine if the father should be charged.
“You have a right to defend your daughter,” Harmon said on CNN. “[The girl’s father] acted in defense of his third person. Once the investigation is completed we will submit it to the district attorney who then submits it to the grand jury, who will decide if they will indict him.”
