Arquette, 40, and Cox, 47, started working together on the horror movie franchise “Scream” in 1996. They married in 1999, and announced a “trial separation” in October 2010. According to court documents, their official date of separation is December 31, 2011.
Initially, after their separation in 2010, the couple had issued a statement saying that they had separated to “better understand ourselves and the qualities we need in a partner and for our marriage.” In the following months, Arquette is supposed to have led an uncontrolled life ending in rehabilitation in 2011. He is trying to become better, and on Monday had his bar mitzvah to become a proper Jewish man.
The couple has been on amicable terms and has filed for joint custody of their daughter, seven-year-old Coco Riley Arquette.
Cox, who is appearing on the current television show, “Cougar Town,” came to limelight in the 1980s during the TV sitcom “Family Ties,” and proceeded to star as Monica Geller in “Friends.” Arquette started his acting career in the 1990s and became a star with the “Scream” franchisee. His recent popular shows include the sitcom “My Name Is Earl” and the comedy film, “Conception.”
While representatives of both stars declined to comment on the matter, TMZ.com, the celebrity website posted the divorce papers on its website on Tuesday.
