Wall Street Journal Reporter, Gina Chon, Resigns after Emails Released

Just one week after emails leaked information regarding a romantic relationship with a source in Iraq, reporter Gina Chon has resigned from her position at the Wall Street Journal. The emails were of racy topic between Chon and Brett McGurk, an employee of the National Security Council at the time of the emails. The emails became public last Tuesday. The two are now married but the emails detailed an affair that they had with each other prior to the marriage. It has also been reported that McGurk was married at the time of the affair he had with Chon.

“Gina Chon agreed to resign this afternoon after acknowledging that while based in Iraq she violated the Dow Jones Code of Conduct by sharing certain unpublished news articles with Brett McGurk, then a member of the U.S. National Security Council in Iraq,” a spokeswoman from Dow Jones said in a prepared statement on Tuesday.

Chon did not disclose her relationship with McGurk to her editors, who claim that the newspaper did not find any evidence that the affair affected how she performed her job as a reporter. Chon covered the Iraq War for the newspaper and then joined the newspaper’s Money & Investing team back in April of 2010.
