If anyone wanted to see former President George W. Bush’s head on a stake, your time has come because ‘Game of Thrones’ has done so. The show airs on HBO and in the tenth episode of the first season, Bush’s head appears on a stake in King’s Landing. The head is not alone as there are many more decorating King’s Landing. The reason for this is that King Joffrey wanted to warn anyone wishing to cross him that he should not be messed with.
If you watch the commentary on the DVD for season one of ‘Game of Thrones,’ the show’s creators David Beinoff and D.B. Weiss explained why Bush’s head appears on a stake. “George Bush’s head appears in a couple beheading scenes. It’s not a choice. It’s not a political statement. It’s just we had to use whatever heads we had around.”
In the clip in this post, King Joffrey explains who the heads belong to but he does not ever reach the head of Bush. HBO released the following statement:
“We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste … We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production.”
Benioff and Weiss said: “We can’t afford to have [prosthetic body parts] made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush … We meant no disrespect to the former President and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise.”
