Brenna Martin’s dad has been at it for 13 years. He gave a new twist to the old standby of giving his highschool graduate a copy of Dr. Seuss’s “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!” He’s been secretly requesting her teachers write comments and affirmations on the pages of the book, in preparation for her high school graduation. Each of her teachers from kindergarten onwards were included, and wrote words of encouragement and appreciation in the book.
“On the first page I see a short paragraph written by none other than my kindergarten teacher,” she wrote, when she shared it on Reddit. “I start tearing up but I’m still confused.”
“Yes, the intended effect occurred,” she continued. “I burst into tears. Sitting there reading through this book there are encouraging and sweet words from every teacher I love and remember through my years in this small town.”
Her father posted in on the Reddit conversation as well: “I cannot believe Brenna posted this .. She has always been the light of my life. Doing this was just a small way of letting her know. She makes me so proud every day.”
Some other parents who joined in on the Reddit conversation found the story inspiring, and plan on giving a similar gift to their own children.
