Kate Holmes believes she’s being followed. Ever since she announced her divorce to Tom Cruise, an active and vocal member of Scientology, she believes their Church has had her tailed. Not only she, but many people have noted the mysterious white Cadillac Escalade and black Mercedes SUV near Katie’s NYC apartment.
The Church’s lawyer categorically denied she was being followed — but that doesn’t prove anything. The Church, which is known for being highly litigatious, is also known for hiring detectives and having critics of the Church followed and compromised. This was the case of John Sweeney with BBC who, while interviewing ex-members of the Church, was dogged by detectives hired from the Church who showed up seemingly wherever they went. The Church’s stance on these incidents are at best ambiguous.
The possible motive for the Church of Scientology to tail Kate is that she could be a potential critic of the Church. She left Catholicism to join it when she married Tom Cruise, but there are rumors now that their divorce may be in part motivated by her opinion of the Church; and in the upcoming divorce proceedings, Katie might be seeking sole custody to get her daughter away from Scientology.
