One of the oldest law firms in Nevada, Jones Vargas, has decided to join Fennemore Craig, based in Phoenix. Jones Vargas can trace its root in the state of Nevada back to 1928. The firm is known for representing clients in regulatory and legislative issues. The law firm has run into a narrow realm of practices and an economy that has hurt its real estate and corporate transactions specialties.
There are 23 attorneys still employed by the law firm and all of them will join the offices of Fennemore Craig. The firm once employed as many as 60 attorneys in the middle of the decade of the 2000s. The offices for Jones Vargas are located in Las Vegas and Reno. When the attorneys join Fennemore Craig it will triple their numbers in Nevada to 36. The firm’s new name will be Fennemore Craig Jones Vargas in Nevada only.
“We have turned down a number of offers (to join other firms) for many years and figured it was about time,” Jones Vargas President Joseph W. Brown said. “We did not have some of the practice areas we needed to remain competitive and attractive to clients.” Brown also said that the recession has hurt the firm. “It has been challenging.”
