Hope Wood Receives ARAG Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship

A third-year law student from Maynard, Iowa, Hope Wood; has been awarded the ARAG Chad Hensley Diversity Scholarship at Drake Law School. The award recognition is based on community service, academic achievements and personal commitment to support and inspire other students to follow their dreams and persevere through difficult times. Hope enrolled in laws school as a non-traditional student as a new mom to a seven-week-old son. Wood also brought with her an eight-year career in health and exercise promotion management. Wood wrote a book about her experience titled Law School Mom in the hopes that it would help other law school parents.

When Wood graduates from Drake she is planning to stay in Des Moines as an active member of the bar community. “I plan to start a solo practice to serve individuals, families and small businesses,” Wood said. “I am very excited to give back to the community and intend to find a variety of ways to help families and children.”

“We are proud to recognize Hope as the recipient of the ARAG scholarship. She embodies the principles on which the scholarship was established,” David Murray said. Murray is the President and Chief Executive Officer at ARAG. The scholarship’s name comes from former insurance company executive Chad Hensley. Hensley is an ARAG board member and is a graduate of Drake Law School.
