Nude Photos of Canadian Judge Could Cost Her Spot on Bench

A judge from Canada is in danger of losing her job because of a set of nude photos taken of her by her husband. The Canadian Judicial Council has opened an inquiry of Justice Lori Douglas because of her husband Jack King sending a couple of the nude photos to a former client, Alex Chapman. Chapman claims that he has been sexually harassed by the couple. King works as a divorce lawyer and he informed the inquiry earlier this week that he started taking nude pictures of his wife back in 1996 and hid them in his sock drawer in an envelope.

“I never told her they were there, she never said she knew they were there, from that I deduced she did not know they were there,” King said in response to a question from inquiry counsel Guy Pratte. King also informed the inquiry that he began using the porn website known as Dark Cavern four years later. The site helps people set up interracial sexual meetings.

According to CBS News, King did admit that he posted 35 nude photos of Douglas back in 2002 on the website’s section called ‘Wives and Black Lovers.’ He did this because he fantasized about having a ‘threesome of an interracial nature.’ King said he feels “shame and stupidity” because he did not blur his wife’s face in the photos he posted to the site. He also called the posting of the pictures a “pursuit of some absolutely bizarre sexual behavior on my part.”

King has admitted that he sent a couple of the photos to Chapman in the hopes of talking him into having sex with Douglas. King claims he stopped taking nude photos of his wife before Chapman filed the complaint of harassment in 2003. In a settlement with King worth $25,000, Chapman said he would not mention the photos. Chapman discussed the allegations in 2010 publicly, which voided the settlement. Chapman’s discussion of the claims led to the inquiry by the Canadian Judicial Council.

Douglas was promoted to associate chief justice in 2009 after she became a judge of the Court of Queen’s Bench in 2005. Douglas was placed on leave in 2010. The inquiry will determine whether or not the photos will prohibit Douglas from continuing her position on the bench.

King has told the inquiry multiple times that Douglas did not know he was posting the nude photos on the internet. “She had no idea until June 2003 that I had posted any pictures on the internet,” he said.

Douglas used to work at a law firm in Winnipeg. A managing partner there, Michael Sinclair, said, “She was shattered. She was very upset, very emotional. She said she didn’t know anything about any of this.”
