Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great start to your week! I took yesterday off as a sick day and I’m so glad I did! I would have been a mess if I tried to make it to work and sit there and focus all day. I needed the extra time to just relax and recoup – mentally and physically!

One of the things I did yesterday was start reading Sisterhood Everlasting. It’s a follow up on the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, which I was a HUGE fan of, so I was excited to see the story continued!

Another book I read recently? Insurgent! It’s the second book in a 3-book series. The first was Divergent,  but the third won’t be coming out for a YEAR! Ahhhhh! I’m dying! Haha let’s hope I can forget about it until next Fall!

I really enjoyed this book! It was super thick but I managed to work my way through it pretty quickly! I was always excited for my commute to and from work because it was the biggest chunk of time during the day that I could read.

The story is based in a dystopic world, meaning it’s different from the one we all live in. What I love about the story is that the city they live in is actual a future version of Chicago. The author, Veronica Roth (who is only 22 by the way!!) lives here in Chicago and since I know the city it’s really cool to recognize certain things in the book.

In the story, the city is split up into “factions”, which are groups of people with similar personality characteristics, and they each live together and play a function in the city as a whole. When a person reaches the age of 16 they take a test to determine which faction they are best suited for and can then decide to stay where they grew up, or move to a different faction. Confusing, huh? Haha it makes sense when you read the story.

The second book starts out at a point where all the factions are at war, which is difficult for Tris, the main character, who switched factions when she turned 16. The book follows her and she deals with the war, loss of family and friends, and learning to trust her instincts rather than only doing what others tell her, even if she loves and trusts them.

It’s an exciting story and definitely one that’s hard to put down! And of course it ended with a complete cliff-hanger! Fall 2013 cannot come soon enough! Oh wait, I have to find a job by then… it can take it’s time.

Another thing I did yesterday? Go through old music! I was going through all the music (lol well as much as I could get through) to try and find good marathon training songs. I like bringing back old songs, ones that I got tired of from listening to too much! While looking through them I came across a few gems. Remember these?

In My Pocket by Mandy Moore

Hollaback Girl by Gwen Stefani

Stars are Blind by Paris Hilton (AAAHHHHH yes I bought that song… shame. In my defense, I can’t sing so I like to sing along to people who also can’t sing…)

MMMBop by Hanson (I had their cassette tape… that’s how old this is)

L.O.V.E. by Ashlee Simpson (another one I could sing along to)

Genie in a Bottle by Christina Aguilera

Do you prefer reading series, or single novels?

What’s a great throw-back song you listen to?
