A former top aide to ex-mayor Richard Daley started a law firm that has now added another South Side aldermen to its staff. Taking a post known as ‘of counsel,’ Aldermen Latasha Thomas, 17th, joined the law firm of Reyes Kurson
Thomas went to DePaul University College of Law and was there at the same time that Reyes was there. Thomas is also a fourth-term alderman and is the chair of the Education Committee. Thomas focuses her practice on conflict litigation and transactional law. Thomas has had her new job with the city cleared by the city’s Board of Ethics and said she will not perform any work at the law firm that has to do with the city. Multiple aldermen for the city work outside jobs.
Timothy Mitchell also joined the law firm recently. Mitchell was the CEO of the Chicago Park District for quite some time. Mitchell does not work as a lawyer so he was hired as the law firm’s director of government affairs. Mitchell was also named as a vice president for Compass Public Affairs, which is another place where Reyes works.
